Queen wants Trump to stop using their music at his campaign rallies and are exploring legal options to ensure he can’t use them:

CNN – Another musical act has put Donald Trump under pressure for using a song at an official campaign event or rally without permission. British rock band Queen is exploring legal options to prevent the Trump campaign from using the track “We Are The Champions” after the presumptive Republican presidential nominee walked out on stage to it before his speech on Tuesday night.

Lead guitarist Brian May confirmed in a statement posted on his personal website that they were seeking legal advice because of “an avalanche” of complaints from fans. “My personal reaction to Donald Trump using our music? We’d never give permission,” he wrote Wednesday. “We are taking advice on what steps we can take to ensure this use does not continue. Regardless of our views on Mr Trump’s platform, it has always been against our policy to allow Queen music to be used as a political campaigning tool.”

I thought that permissions to use music went through licensing companies like BMI and ASCAP?

Either way, I can understand why a band would object to a politician using their music. But they put it out there in the first place for everyone so I don’t have a lot of sympathies for them.
