Rochester police say they responded to the park around 6:20 p.m. for the report of a large gathering with shots fired and found several people suffering from gunshot wounds, and a large group of people fleeing from the scene.
According to police, one 20-year-old person has died, another in life threatening condition and an additional five people have been hospitalized with “relatively minor injuries” at this time as a result of this shooting.
Police say some people were transported to the hospital by private vehicle throughout the night and others by ambulance.
The identity of the victim fatally shot has not yet been released as police are working to notify the family.
Several police agencies responded to the park including the Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriffs, Rochester Police and New York State Police. RPD did confirm a party was happening in the area at the time of the shooting.
RPD is asking anyone with video of the incident to send the videos directly to police through Major Crimes or contact Crime Stoppers instead of posting the videos directly to social media. Police also ask anyone with information to call either 311 or 911.
“At this point we don’t know how many people were shooting. We are trying to work our way through that. We are trying to work our way through as many witnesses as we can,” Captain Greg Bello said.
Police say they have no suspects in custody at this time.
