Richer Is Out - Heaps Is In
« on: July 31, 2024, 07:33:48 pm »
Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer has lost his GOP primary for reelection, a notable upset in a critical election official’s race, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.

Richer lost to Arizona Freedom Caucus member state Rep. Justin Heap for a role that manages voter rolls and early voting, among other responsibilities.

I was pulling for Don Hiatt.

I don't know much about Heap, except that the Gadfly Brian Ference was badmouthing him all over the place.  Can't get enough of the stupidity of some shortsighted Republicans.

Richer was not a favorite of many after 2020 and he didn't do a very good job in 2022 as far as I am concerned.

Can't say I am sorry to see him go.

Heap is just like Richer.  I was pulling for Hyatt too.  Ference is right on this one, and he isn't alone.

That is not good news.

Why did Heap want this job ?

Off-topic,  my son lives outside of Phoenix and we go visit him once a year, and I love hiking on those trails and climbing those mountains and overlooking the city. It’s very calming and soothing in its own way

But I have noticed something over the years. Nobody owns a boat happy77.
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

But so many swimming pools!  Now, here by the Colorado River and Lake Mohave, there are tons of boats and personal watercraft....

OH, oh... RICHER, not RICHTER.

Some AZ race.  I thought next earthquake, we'd be using the Heaps scale instead...
Which perhaps, sounds more apropos...

Nevermind. Carry on...

The rumor was that Arizona had more boats per capita than any other state in the Union.

Not true.....

But there is lots of boat ownership.

Many keep them stored as we don't tend to build homes where you can keep one.

Never heard of 'bourgie' yet... I take it that's said like 'boorgie' or 'borgie' and is taken from 'bourgeois', from your description...

Seeing the thread, I thought it was some kind of Idenity politics, kind of bull shit.   :silly:

Someone said Heap is as bad as Richer.

I don't know that Richer was bad.  He just lost.

Heap was a state rep.  This was from his facebook page:

As your State Representative I will put Arizona first and champion conservative ideals. I will fight for election integrity, secure borders, low taxes, our 2nd Amendment rights, and more.

Richer started a PAC specficially aimed to defeat election deniers.  Which was a lot of republicans.  So, in effect, you had the guy elected to protect elections in a form of conflict of interest in my opinion.

Now, you have an apparent right wing guy who might have the same.

I don't know what Heap's position was on the "stolen" elections.

Heap has said the last two elections were "perfect."  When it comes to election integrity, there is no daylight between the two of them.  Let's hope Heap changes his mind about that.

While I don't get into that, I do wonder why he wanted to replace Richer.  If he thought they were perfect, why the need for a change ?

Good question.  Personally, I hope Heap was lying when he said the elections were "perfect."  It's noteworthy that 2022 made Richer vulnerable so Heap had an opportunity.  Those chances don't come often for Recorder.  It's a PITA job, elections are only a part of what a Recorder does.  People generally don't want it as it is a dead-end gig.

Maricopa County has a lot of work to do.

Way to many people from California coming in and we can't afford to sit around and do little or nothing about getting former GOP members energized and attracted back to the party.
