Trump attack on Harris’s race frustrates and panics Republicans

.

Former President Donald Trump is under pressure for his latest line of attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, questioning her racial identity.

Trump spoke at the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual conference Wednesday in Chicago, where he got into a tense exchange with several black journalists. At one part of the exchange, Trump implicitly accused Harris of being a fraud, claiming that she shifted between stressing her Indian and Jamaican racial identities.

“So I’ve known her a long time, indirectly, not directly, very much, and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said. “I didn’t know she was black, until a number of years ago when she ran (as) black, and now she wants to be known as black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she black?”

“I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t, because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden, she made a turn and … she became a black person,” he added, to disapproval from the crowd.

The remark caused many Republicans to panic, who have treated Harris’s race as a political third rail.

Republicans immediately started hitting the panic button, with some down-ballot candidates taking Trump’s statements on more directly than others.

Trump might be able to drive a wedge between Dems and some black electorate by trumpeting past accolades for being (South Asian) Indian.

Is there anything that doesn't panic Republican elites?

Trump can turn this by simply pointing out that Shamala changes her spots any time she runs into a different interest group, and really doesn't care about anybody but her small little woke constituency, and everyone else is excluded and expendable.

Meanwhile, he keeps playing the populist. He's got  a decent record to stand on, and will work for all Americans, not just pander to whatever group is in the audience right now.
The Republic is lost.

Harris’ abysmal record is a target-rich environment.  I don’t understand why Trump doesn’t focus exclusively on that.  Emphasizing the race issue will accomplish nothing but alienate the independents without whom victory will be impossible.  The “media” are actively covering for her record and only Trump can counter that.  Every day he fails to do so is detrimental to his campaign.

President Trump is quite capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time.

He's got plenty of time to focus on the economy and the effects of inflation, but the audience yesterday was the Association of BLACK 'journalists'...and I use that term lightly.

What better time to point out that the press/media never ask Kamala Harris why she accused Joe Biden of being a Racist..."I was that little girl on the school bus..." during the 2020 primaries?

Or, that she has NEVER sat down to an impromptu interview on the issues with anyone...it's always scripted.

Or, that she ...and CNN feature her as an American-Indian woman of color and not a Black woman?

Donald Trump handled that interview classicly.  Right out of his book.  Put the interviewer on the defense to gain advantage.

*  They never even greeted him with a hello...who are you...after he as SHOT two weeks ago.
*  They were 35 minutes late and the very 1st question was extremely hostile.

President Trump is quite capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time.

It's not a question of what Trump can say. It's a question of what people will hear.

The vast majority of people don't watch the entirety of such interviews. They'll see whatever clips get circulated in social media or put on the nightly news. So when Trump tries a shotgun approach of mentioning a whole bunch of things at once, the coverage is never going to mention his most effective points, but only point out his weakest.  And that's all most swing voters are ever going to hear.

If he would stick to just one or two central points n these interviews, and hammer just those issues, he would deprive the media of the ability to shape the narrative.  But because he is so undisciplined when he speaks, he lets the media drown out whatever his intended message was by repeating the worst stuff from those interviews.

What was the opening question again?    PS:  An interview is not a speech, genius.

There are many disqualifying things about Kamala Harris. You don’t need to focus on her race.

Focus on the fact she’s a woman.

He was rewarded by the republican primary voters for doing this kind of stuff.  He is still at it today, posting pictures of her Indian family.  It may be time to focus on senate races, as he seems primed for a meltdown.

President Trump, if you want to win, stop talking about Elvis, Hannibal Lector and 2020, and Harris’ racial makeup. Talk about what she has said about the economy, the border, crime, you know the issues the voters care about. She is so vulnerable.

There’s enough intel for a normal person to bludgeon her campaign to death.  He has yet to show much interest in policy, and he doesn’t have much time before early voting starts.

Trump is going to be, well, Trump.  He's playing the race card back at her.

From several of the ads posted in here, he is going after her on the issues.

He also needs to hammer home what he's going to do to take this country forward which will be the complete opposite of what she's done.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

I will agree to a degree. I'm no Trump groupie but he was put on defense immediately. So they played him but not as badly as it could have been. Under the circumstances, considering his personality, he stayed pretty calm. I might have decked that first chick had it been me.

In his defense he tried to talk about issues but was side lined by the attack dogs. Heck, he should have just gone on The View. :rolling:

As far as the black vs Indian issue...he was trying to illustrate that she is a liar that panders to whatever audience she is speaking to. Sort of like Joey being   everything to everybody. Even if he isn't. He didn't do it very artfully and the media and the Dems jumped on it.

But at least he went. As I have said before, when Kamala goes to the lion's den I'll pay attention.
