UPDATE: New details emerging on responses to fires across western North DakotaSixty MPH winds helped push wildfires across the prairie in Western ND on Sunday. Thankfully, only one person lost their life, and through the efforts of firefighters (Local, Tribal, State, and Federal agencies cooperating) the loss of buildings was limited.

Fires like these are huge and move quickly. one of these traveled over 10 miles (not your average grass fire), and they have been known to burn for 20 or more miles before being brought under control. Several small towns were threatened.
With that in mind, we dodged a bullet, and while there will be some hardship due to loss of forage for cattle, this is not anywhere in the same class of devastation that the hurricanes are wreaking down south. I just thought it worthy of mention.
